Simple Guide To Portray Yourself As A Muslim or Muslimah

Step 1: Practise Religion

Allah stated in the Quran: “But as for those who believed and did righteous deeds, He will give them in full their rewards, and Allah does not like the wrongdoers..” – Al Imran verse 57

Therefore, if we love our religion, if we love Allah, we have to show it to Him by practising our religion and performing what He loves.

Actions as simple as donating money to the poor, or removing harm from a pathway can also be considered as practising our religion, aside from our 5 daily prayers and other compulsory practices. It can also begin at home by helping our mothers with simple chores and caring for the family.

At all times, whatever it is that we do, show that we’re Muslims by observing actions which are good and don’t even think about observing actions which are deemed as bad, such as lying or stealing because as the above verse states, Allah does not like wrongdoers.

So since we say we love Him, let’s stay away from what He dislikes!

Step 2: Learn, Every Day, At All Times

After all, the first verse of the Quran that was revealed instructs us to Read.

Allah said : “Recite in the name of your Lord who created.” Surah Al Alaq, verse 1.

As a Muslim, we need to always be aware of what is happening around us. This can only come about if we make the effort to notice our world and make ourselves more knowledgable by constantly seeking knowledge and putting the knowledge  into practice.

Learning can be as simple as studying or going to seminars or talks, as most of us have been very fortunate to be given such opportunities, alhamdullilah.

Learning can also be in forms of reading what is useful from the media; new and old. We all love our smartphones, plus the television and newspapers are pretty affordable today anyway ;)

Learning can also be in forms of listening to others; elderly people especially have experienced a lot in life and since they love to share, we should take the time to listen and learn from their stories.

Easy isn’t it? Lets do it together!

Step 3: Caring For Our Health

One of the greatest benefits that Allah has given us is our Health.

He lent us perfect bodies, in their perfect shape and form, hence its our job to take care of them.

Well, we can start simple by consuming what is deemed as ‘halal’ or ‘permissible’ by Allah. Amongst the foods that He has prohibited is pork and carcass.

Allah clearly remind us in the Quran in Surah Yunus verse 59, “He has only forbidden to you dead animals, blood, the flesh of swine, and that which has been dedicated to other than Allah. But whoever is forced [by necessity], neither desiring [it] nor transgressing [its limit], there is no sin upon him. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.”

Then, there’s Exercise. Many scientific researches have also reminded us about the need and the benefits of exercise; it can be as simple as going for walks, or horse riding.

Not forgetting, health also includes the well being of our hearts and the best way to do take care of our hearts is by the remembrance of Allah. This is as easy as working hard towards our goals, and believing that Allah will ease our affairs inshaAllah.

Being a good Muslim can be as simple as one, two, three. So what are we waiting for? Let’s get ready, set, go! Start on it!

All the best!
